Church donates medical equipment to Bolivian hospital

Carlos Vásquez, Local Leader | official website

On December 6, 2024, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints made a donation to the Women’s Hospital in La Paz, Bolivia. This contribution aims to address the hospital's challenges related to limited and outdated medical equipment, which have hindered efforts to reduce newborn mortality rates.

The donation included various medical devices such as neonatal incubators, multiparameter monitors for ECG and other vital signs, volumetric infusion pumps, phototherapy units, syringe infusion pumps, a mechanical ventilator, CPAP devices, resuscitators, and pulse oximeters.

Dr. Marisol Yucra, head of neonatology and neonatal intensive care services at the hospital, stated that the facility often exceeds its capacity for hospitalizations. With this donation, they can now equip an unused space and alleviate issues related to space or equipment shortages.

Carlos Vásquez represented the Church during the donation event. He acknowledged the dedication of the medical staff and expressed gratitude for being able to make this contribution. "We thank God for allowing us to make this donation possible," Vásquez said. He also highlighted that the donation was made possible by members' contributions through observing the law of fasting. These contributions enable the Church to support essential services like those provided by the hospital.
